Life happening around water and silent thoughts in the works of Li Peizhen

Our guest today is Li Peizhen, a realist painter Beijing-based and National First Class Artist whose work combines the technical discipline of contemporary realism with a deeply poetic sensitivity. Throughout his career, he has developed a distinctive visual language centered on observation, atmosphere, and the subtle emotional experiences that connect people to their environments. His paintings have been widely exhibited, awarded, and collected, reflecting his significant contribution to contemporary Chinese art.

Two recurring themes define Li Peizhen’s artistic practice: water landscapes and figurative portraiture. In his landscapes, rivers, canals, coastlines, and reflections become more than visual subjects; they serve as spaces of memory, change, and contemplation. His portraits, meanwhile, focus on the quiet complexity of human presence, capturing fleeting expressions and moments of introspection with remarkable sensitivity. Whether depicting daily life, natural environments, or individual sitters, his paintings invite viewers to slow down and engage with the subtle beauty of lived experience.

What unites Li Peizhen’s work is a profound attention to transformation and impermanence. Through reflective waters, shifting light, and carefully observed human expressions, he explores the fragile moments that often pass unnoticed. His paintings are not simply representations of places or people, but meditations on presence, memory, and the emotional depth found within ordinary life.
